This Victorian Era Carbuncle probably heralds from the Middle/Grand Era (1860-1885). A Carbuncle consisted of a cabocon cut deep purplish red Almadine Garnet. The process of inlaid Pearl, Diamonds and even Flowers into a stone gained prominence during the 1860s. Storing a lock of a lover’s hair within jewelry was popular at the time. The back of this pendant opens and the space may have been used to store the lock of hair of a lover who was away on a long trip.Victorian Era Carbuncle with Inlaid Pearl Star and Locket for Hair Storage 15K Yellow Gold | Almadine Garnet 12 carats | Seed Pearls 20.5gr | Tag 14615
