Led by Brooks' manic brilliance, the show became an instant subject of conversation. Viewers jammed the TV station phone lines to voice their shock, calling it 'vile,' 'vulgar,' 'disgraceful,' and 'the most insulting thing Mr. Susskind has ever done.'
