The pussy willow is named for the family of Salix caprea or discolor native to Europe and the Americans. Similar to other willows- it grows catkins in early spring and enjoys springs and bodies of water. The plants grow slender shoots lined with little catkins. The leaves are similar to other willows being long and narrow also lining the branch in spring and summer. Fall turns the catkins vibrant colors from red to rust to cafe and fade to a matte brown post harvest. Grows well in partial shade and moist soil conditions.
