Ravintsara is a tall evergreen tree from Madagascar that grows up to 30 meters high. Leaves are steam distilled to give a light yellow essential oil smelling like eucalyptus. Ravintsara is from the large cinnamomum camphora family indigenous to South East China. When brought to Madagascar from Asia few centuries ago, the tree changed and adapted to the different climate, altitude and soil. This “new” tree developed very different properties, the camphor disappeared turning into 1.8-cineole, and that’s why Ravintsara is so unique. It should not be confused with any other Cinnamomum Camphora trees, mainly because Ravintsara essential oil does not contain any camphor. In Malagasy, Ravintsara means “the good leaf”. It got its name from the locals using the leaves to boost their immune system and cure a lot of infections and diseases. Due to its 1,8-Cineole (Eucalyptol) high content, Ravintsara essential oil smells like Eucalyptus and can be used to fight respiratory infections. We can find
