Blue butterfly pea, also known as blue pea or Asian pigeonwings, is an exotic perennial wildflower with one to three flashy purple flowers that are two inches long. These flowers will attract many beneficial insects to your garden. Blue pea loves to climb and can be planted along fence lines, on trellises, or on other support systems. Days to Maturity: 45-55 days Plant size: 6-10 ft tall, with trellising Plant spacing: 6-10” apart Sun, soil, and water requirement: Plants love the sun but do fine with partial shade. Once established, blue pea can tolerate both drought and heavy moisture while living in a range of soil conditions. Soil should be well draining because the roots do not like sitting in water. Pruning: Blue peas don’t need to be pruned however if they are overgrown, they can start to weigh down the vine. Prune the vine back when it gets heavy or too bushy. Harvesting: Harvest the flowers when they are in bloom. You can use them fresh or dry them. Culinary: Flowers are common
