Kale, Red Russian
Kale is an all-around great annual leafy green to have in your garden. With so many varieties, there is sure to be one you and your family will like. They are quick to grow, easy to maintain, and have a cut-and-come-again growth habit (our favorite). This allows it to provide for your family over a long growing period. One plant can go a long way. Get a few varieties and you're set for kale for the season! The red Russian kale is the underdog of the kale in our opinion, but we love it. When people think of kale, their mind doesn’t go to this variety, although it's still just as appetizing as the other varieties, and it adds a gorgeous light purple, blue-green color to your veggie bed. The leaves are ruffled, and the steams are red, giving this kale a lot of character. Best to place this kale towards the back because it likes to get tall!
