Kenya | Kathakwa AA 2025
Region: Embu, KenyaProcess: WashedVariety: SL28, SL34Altitude: 1600 maslWe Taste: Red Currant, Nectarine, Rosehip Though we've had a number of excellent coffees from the Embu region over the years, this is the first we've roasted as most of the Kenyan coffees we've purchased have been from Kirinyaga or Nyeri. The producers that bring cherry to the Kathakwa factory have small farms of aroudn 1-2 hectares. Despite the lots being comprised of cherry from many different farmers, the rigorous sorting and processing methods performed by the Kathakwa factory (and other high quality mills in Kenya) create a high degree of uniformity with excellent quality that make these coffees a joy to roast and drink. For us, Kenyan coffees tend to skew either towards blue/purple fruits or red/orange fruits. This lot from Kathakwa is firmly in the second group for us with vibrant flavors of red currant, nectarine, rosehips, and a subtle caramel and creamy quality that reminds us of creme brulee. Price Br
