3.7" Soviet Grandmaster Supreme Chess Set- Chess Pieces Only in Boxwood- Glass Eyes
Our Soviet Grandmasters Supreme Series Chess Pieces are an excellent reproduction of the famous chess set used in 1961-74 USSR World Championships. (Reference Set courtesy www.chess-collection.de) To add an interesting variation to the chess set, we have used Glass Eyes on the face. Glass Eyes was a concept which was typically seen in German Or French Chess Sets. The 1961 World Chess Championship match was played between Mikhail Botvinnik and Magician from Riga, Mikhail Tal. Although Tal was a strong favourite to win the match, Botvinnik won convincingly by a 13-8 margin.
