The team had two hall of fame coaches in Frank Ramsey and Hubie Brown. Following the team's only championship in 1975, the Colonels challenged the established league champions, the Warriors, to a game for $1 million. The Warriors declined and after one more season, the ABA and the older league merged marking the end of the Colonels franchise.
