In 1900, the league decided to contract from 12 to eight teams. The Colonels owner, who also owned the Pirates, moved 14 players to Pittsburgh ending the Louisville's time at the major league level. A new Colonels team was formed in 1902 and played in the minor league American Association. In 1962, the league folded.
