They got off to a fast start as Connie Hawkins led them the first ABA Championship crown.  Despite winning he league title, and solid attendance, the team moved to Minneapolis the following year. With poor attendance in its only season in Minnesota, the Pipers moved back to Pittsburgh. This time however, fan support was even worse as fans felt abandoned by the team. In 1970, the team was renamed the Condors.  In its short history, the Pipers featured two hall of fame coaches in Vern Mikkelsen and Buddy Jeannette.
