Team Info Years Active: Conquistadors 1972-1975, Sails 1975Stadiums: Peterson Gym, Golden Hall, San Diego Sports Arena The Conquistadors were the first and only expansion team in the American Basketball Association (ABA). The team had constant feuds beginning in the first season when a dispute with the arena manager prevented the team from playing in the San Diego Sports Arena. Despite having to play at small courts around the city, hall of famer KC Jones coached the club to the playoffs in its first season. The following year, the team signed Wilt Chamberlain as a player-coach, but the Lakers sued to prevent Chamblerlain from playing in games. With Chamblerlain only serving as a coach, fans lost interest in the team. They became the Sails in 1975, but was informed it would not be included in the  merger with the established league, the rumored cause being their feud with the Lakers.
