"The TALBOT is the vehicle of the refined, of the connoisseurs, and of the elegant woman" states this advertisement, which appeared in French magazines from 1927 through 1931. This art deco ad, for the now extinct car brand, was created by Georges Hamel (1900-1972) who produced a significant amount of paintings, posters, magazine advertisements, and illustrations. He is known for his illustrations of aeroplanes and automobiles which frequently appeared in the French magazine L'Illustration. In 1931 he was appointed as an Official Peintre de l'Air or Painter of the Air by the French government. The impressiveness and elegance of the vehicle can't be denied with its sleek, modern look. The ad highlights the power, influence, and modernness of the woman driver. Even though she can afford a chauffeur, she makes him sit in the passenger seat when she fancies a drive.
