This 1920s poster is an advertisement for visiting the French city of Troyes, the ancient capital of Champagne. The poster is part of a series for the French eastern railways (Chemins de Fer de L'Est). Until this day Troyes has a lively centre that’s graced with one of France’s finest ensembles of original half-timbered houses and Gothic churches. Often overlooked, it’s one of the best places in France to get a sense of what Europe looked like back when Molière was penning his finest plays and the Three Musketeers were swashbuckling. This poster specifically features one of the coolest buildings in the city, La Maison de l'Orfèvre or the Goldsmith's house. This mansion was built the wealthy family of the goldsmith between 1578 and 1618. Particulars: This lithographic poster has been professionally conserved and backed on acid-free linen paper (see poster and print conservation and restoration).
