Rugged Terrain Cam Chain Tensioner | Polaris RZR 570 / 900 / XP 1000
Rugged Terrain HD Automatic Cam Chain Tensioner for 2011-2016 Polaris RZR 570 / 900 / XP 1000 The stock chain tensioner in your Polaris motor is hydraulic and prone to random failures. Additionally, the OEM tensioner has a weep hole that causes it to lose tension when the motor is turned off. The engine noise you hear when starting your motor, which disappears after a few seconds, is due to the slack in the timing chain while the tensioner is priming. If the tensioner fails due to low oil pressure at startup, it will cause the timing chain to come off or jump teeth, leading to the piston hitting the valves and resulting in catastrophic engine failure. This situation would require a complete engine rebuild, costing thousands of dollars. In addition to the risk of failure at startup, if you roll or flip your RZR, there's a high likelihood of losing prime due to fluid draining out of the weep hole and losing oil pressure, which is almost certain to cause catastrophic engine failure.
