The rivalry began in 1898 when the two schools first faced off on the football field. The game was a result of a challenge thrown by the captain of This Side of the Tracks’ High's football team to the captain of Crosstown Rival Prep. The challenge was simple: "Let's see who truly rules this town." The game was played with rudimentary equipment, on a field marked by wooden stakes, and under rules that would seem alien today.
