Three's Company

On a late December hike I ran across several otter slides along the backwater of the Mississippi River. It had beed cold and we had good ice. I noticed this open hole in the ice and assumed that the local River Otters were actively using it so I setup on the elevated bank. It wasn’t long before one otter stuck its head up through the hole, then a second otter and finally a third showed itself. I particularly like the expose stick with the ice rings demonstrating water level fluctuations, even in the Winter months.
