The exotic hardwoods include the following: Zebrawood heartwood is a golden-yellow with narrow veining or streaks of dark brown to black which gives quartered surfaces a zebra-stripe appearance. Grain is interlocked or wavy and produces alternating hard and soft grained material. Texture is coarse with a lustrous surface. African Padauk heartwood is vivid blood red, toning down to a dark purple-brown with red streaks upon exposure. Grain is straight to interlocked. Texture is similar to African mahogany, being slightly open grained. Purpleheart heartwood is a deep purple-violet when freshly cut, maturing to a dark brown.
