Antique Nihonto - Late Muromachi Period Wakizashi in Shirasaya - NBTHK attributed to Takada
This Shobu (iris leaf) wakizashi was forged during the late Muromachi Period (4-500 years old), and attributed by the NBTHK to the Takada school of Bungo Japan. The Takada school began in Takada village in the Nanbokucho period when its founder Tomoyuki brought smithing techniques from Bizen Province. While Takada swords are generally shunned by collectors as being plain, samurai of the time preferred them for their durability.
