ABOUT A set of original Thonet bentwood armchairs with Bakelite seats and backrest. Sold as a set of four only. "Thonet" stamp on both the seats and backrests. CREATOR Thonet Industries Inc. DATE OF MANUFACTURE c.1930s. MATERIALS & TECHNIQUES Bakelite, Bentwood Beech. CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. No chips in the Bakelite. Minor wear. Each chair is very strudy. DIMENSIONS H 31.5 in. x W 17 in. x D 23 in. Seat Height 18 in. HISTORY Michael Thonet (2 July 1796 – 3 March 1871) was a German-Austrian cabinet maker known for the invention of bentwood furniture.
