The summer solstice is the longest day in the northern hemisphere; the sun is at its brightest and closest to mother earth, strengthening and energizing us. Weyu blesses us with its warm light and heat, bringing the ripening of mother earth's fruits and into our lives. This year, we held a ceremony in the sacred space created when we share our stories. We combined apprenticeship and ritual. In this ceremony, Akutu brought a brief episode of our Remembering Series to honor the sun and ancestors. She taught us how to sing and play a Kiskeya ceremonial Afro-Taino song performed around the summer solstice on traditional Taino instruments. The cost is on a sliding scale of $45-$55-$65.
