Soukina's Caramel Boxed Hand-Knot
This rug was designed and will be handwoven by the artisans of M’rirt, a village nestled in Morocco’s Middle Atlas Mountains. The artisans reimagined the classic checkered design, adding a border to give the piece a sense of dimensionality and visual depth. Led by Soukina, this collective of 25 women was founded in the early 2000s by her late mother, Keltouma. They specialize in medium- to high-pile hand-knot rugs, a style named after the region. Traditional M’rirt rugs are crafted using a thick knotting technique, resulting in an exceptionally plush texture. While inspired by the well-known Beni Ourain style, M’rirt rugs are distinct—particularly in the density of the knots and the weight of the wool used by the artisans. Woven from 100% “live” Moroccan sheep’s wool and dyed with all-natural spices and plants by our third-generation dyer, each piece is finished with a rich, tonal depth that’s entirely unique.
