Classic 80s Drums From the Digital / Analog Hybrid The DMX is an 8 bit eprom-based drum machine developed in 1981, featuring acoustic drum samples and a warm, analog filter. The DMX is just about the closest you can get to the sound of a Linn LM1 without spending a mortgage on a drum machine. The drums are punchy and funky, instantly recognizable, and fully tune-able via internal trimmers:  The Sound At the core of the DMX are 11, 8 bit PCM acoustic drum samples that have been companded (compressed and expanded) to increase their dynamic range, making the sound quality approximately 12 bit in the analog domain. All samples pass through the famous Curtis 3320 analog filter chip, and are output through crunchy, old skool converters. From this you might assume the DMX sounds Lo Fi - but you'd be wrong!
