Vacuum Mattresses

VacMats (Total Immobilization) The Responder Products Vacuum Mattress, or Vacmat, are medical devices used for the immobilization of patients especially in cases of vertabra, pelvis, or limb trauma. Primarily used for manual transportation of patients. The VacMat consists of a sealed, double layered, polymer bag that encloses small polystyrene balls, with a valve and straps; all of which are easily replacable. The VacMats are easy to clean and invisible to X-Ray. When the mattress are not under pressure the patients limb is placed into the mattress. As air is sucked out of the mattress the tiny balls mold around the patient. The atmospheric pressure presses the balls together & the mattress becomes hard and rigid. Then the straps are tied to secure patients.
