An Egyptian Amethyst and Gold Pendant, Middle Kingdom, ca. 2040 - 1783 BCE
The teardrop-shaped bead carved from bright transluscent amethyst, the top wrapped with a ribbon of gold sheet, pierced vertically for stringing. It has been set on a 14K gold bail and strung on an 18-inch 18K gold chain. Medium: Amethyst, gold Dimensions: Pendant length: 5/8 inch (1.8 cm) Strung as a pendant on an 18-inch 18K gold chain Condition: The pendant is intact and in very good condition overall.Provenance: Private collection of Stanislav Kovar (1889 - 1962 ). Czechoslovakian diplomat and amateur collector, Kovar assembled his collection while serving as Consul General in Alexandria, Egypt from 1934 - 1947. Thence by descent to his daughter, Eva Christova, who emigrated to Melbourne, Australia with his collection between 1970 and 1972.
