A Roman Gold and Jasper Intaglio Ring, Roman Imperial Period, ca. 2nd century CE

The dark red jasper stone carved with the bust of a man in left profile, with curly hair and a Grecian nose.  Set in an antique 22K gold ring with a raised oval bezel.  Medium:  Red jasper, gold Dimensions:  US ring size 6 1/2  (UK: M 1/2; Europe: 53; Japan: 13) Condition:  Originally set in an iron ring with trace remains to the edges of the intaglio, the intaglio is intact and in very good condition overall.   Provenance:  Madame Frances Artuner collection, Belgium, acquired in the 1960s, thereafter private Illinois collection.
