Reaching
Have you ever noticed how when we reach, we always reach for what is better, for what is good? There's something innate in that motion, that stretching beyond our current state toward possibility. In this painting, I wanted this reaching to become almost elemental, as if the figure is being born from the very waters that surround them. We are, after all, mostly water ourselves. My hope is to convey the poetry in how this figure can be seen as both separate from and inseparable from the liquid medium that cradles her. Suggesting that our reaching isn't about abandoning where we come from, but about growing from it. "Reaching," I hope I've captured not just a moment of aspiration, but a meditation on what it means to be human—forever stretching toward something better while remaining rooted in the elemental forces that shaped us. This painting suggests to me that our reaching is not separate from our nature, but the very expression of it. Oil on stretched canvas A3 Unframed and unst
