The Portal

Just got back from a 3 week adventure in the Alaskan backcountry. Heli hiking, river crossings, camping in a storm where the 80mph winds blew the tent away, bear sightings, was all adrenaline pumping action. But none compared to exploring this ice cave. Far off the beaten path, with giant boulders rolling off the mountainside making it very dangerous to enter the ice cave. The trick was to look up the mountain and make sure none of the boulders are moving, see the path you are going to sprint over through the unstable rockpile in front of the ice cave, pray, hold your breath and run for it. While inside the cave was surprised to find secret tunnels that lead to more caves. As I was shooting I could hear the falling boulders outside, a reminder that the clock is ticking...for all of us. Might as well make the most of it.
