2019 "Pick and Shovel" Zinfandel

Winemaker Alex MacGregor goes to great lengths to make the finest Mendo wine he can. Make that great angles. You see, our estate's Pick & Shovel Zinfandel block is no ordinary patch of land. The slope is seriously steep—greater than a 30º pitch—which makes it very challenging to farm. (We needed to wield actual picks and shovels to plant the vines in the rocky, well-draining soils, hence the clever name.) But the payoff in the glass is worth it, as you’ll taste. A dash of fruit from the nearby Sawyer Vineyard adds further depth and intensity to the succulent black fruit notes here. Strike it rich in the food pairing department by serving this at your next barbecue. Just 169 cases produced.
