Knewitz Gau-Algesheimer Goldberg 1G Riesling Trocken 2022, Rheinhessen, Germany

Goldberg is situated directly next to Hundertgulden but belongs to the neighboring village. This is the warmest of the six single vineyard sites and has an extremely high limestone content as well.  The grapes for this Riesling come from old vines in the Gau-Algesheimer Goldberg (the precursor site of the Appenheimer Hudertgulden). It is south-west oriented and has a soil mainly characterized by calcareous marl. Selected in several steps, fermented with its own yeasts and half aged in wooden barrels, this Riesling is a mature and distinctive wine. The nose includes yellow-fruited notes of pome and stone fruit such as pear, quince and nectarine. At the same time, the fruit is restrained and underpinned by herbal hints of sage, borage and laurel, which bring in a slightly tart tone.
