Aichmophobia is the fear of sharp objects, which are also called "pointy sticks" or "pointy things". The name comes from the Greek word αἰχμή (aichmē) meaning sharp point or needle and φόβος (phobos) which is defined as fear. Aichmophobes can actually fear anything that has the potential to harm them, including pencils and other writing utensils. If you happen to be afraid of something like this, don't worry; you are definitely not alone in the world. The fears associated with Aichmophobia can range in severity from fearing needles or darts all the way up to being petrified of something as simple as a sharp pencil. Some sufferers experience fear on a daily basis while others only experience it when they come in contact with certain objects.
