Interpretive Copy Dee Woolley, a tourism promoter from Kanab, Utah, convinced his nephew Gordon to drive his new Thomas Flyer to the north rim of the Grand Canyon in June 1909. Accompanied by others, he successfully made the 425-mile journey from Salt Lake City, proving that automobiles would revolutionize tourism. Their pioneering motor tour inspired many to follow what became known as the Grand Canyon Highway.
