Juniper Incense Wood - Juniperus deppeana

Alligator Juniper incense wood smudge sticks. These desert beauties are hand-harvested and split by us to unveil the vibrant heartwood, which is deeply aromatic - rich, dry and sweet. We ethically wild harvest only naturally dead alligator juniper in the mountains of southern Arizona, and from this, use only the pure heartwood. This is extremely dense Juniper, because the trees are dwarfed by the intense Arizona climate and 6000' elevation so that they only grow to be 10-15' tall. It is best to heat the juniper pieces rather than burn them, because the fragrance comes out when smoldering and not when lit on fire. You can light them momentarily and blow it out multiple times to get a good scent. Light with a lighter or candle, or place a small piece on an incense charcoal or incense heater. 8-10 sticks per oz.
