The Three Graces
A luscious, lemony yellow antique glass seal of The Three Graces looks as though the beauties are captured in a piece of amber. No matter which way you tilt and view this piece, the iconic imagery looks as thought it's living in three dimensional glory. The Three Graces depicts the three daughters of Greek god Zeus. Each daughter bestows a particular gift on humanity: Euphrosyne (joy), Aglaia (radiance), and Thalia (the bloom of beauty). We sat with this one for quite awhile, listening to how this seal wanted to be presented, and we felt a connection to Venus since The Three Graces are closely related to her. Botticelli's Birth of Venus kept coming to mind, so we played with similar shapes, different yet evoking a similar aesthetic quality.
