This was such an amazing experience that took a ton of planning! Honestly, at first, I wasn't really interested in seeing the eclipse. I've seen partial eclipses from Seattle before. Sure, they were cool. But, the more I read about a TOTAL eclipse, the more I became hooked. From there, I looked up the path across the US and knew that I could get a popular, zoomed in shot from just about any clear-weather spot. The real challenge was to integrate a spectacular landscape into it. Using prediction models, I located this spot, hiked up 5000 feet and, boy, was it worth it. Later that same day, after the eclipse and everybody headed home, I hiked closer to the mountains and waited for the milky way to light up the darkness.
