Woven Dishtowels on a Rigid Heddle Loom
Dishtowels are a classic handwoven item that provide a blank canvas for just about any technique; colors, fancy stitches, you name it. In this class we will discuss weaving with cotton yarns, how to determine sett, how to warp for multiple items at once, and what makes a good handwoven dishtowel. Students will have two warp options to choose from, a fine 8/2 cotton or a worsted cotton. This three part class will teach you to plan for and warp your towels, how to hemstitch, to use pickup sticks to create designs in your weaving, how to weave multiple pieces on the same warp, how to weave with cotton, as well as how to create a hand rolled hem. This class is designed for looms that are 16” or larger. Smaller looms are welcome but expect to make adjustments. Schedule: 1st session 3 hours, 2nd & 3rd session: 2 hours each.
