a natural study of holy week || botanical art print
Sometimes the ideas and dreams we have take a long time to come to life. I began dreaming up an iteration of this piece in late 2019 when I made my first advent calendar for the Christmas season. I wanted to translate that to the Lenten tradition, but could not figure it out. Fast forward to early 2021, when I began painting botanicals in earnest and could not get Easter off of my mind. I wanted to share my love of this holiday and gratitude for the Savior, but lambs looked like blobs and tombs fell short. Then like lightning, amid a table covered in Easter eggs, I knew what I wanted to do. not only that, I knew what I could do. Coming off of my botanical studies, I had the natural world at my fingertips and drew immediate inspiration from that. The result is a natural study of Holy Week.
