Lupinus texensis, Texas Bluebonnet Seed Balls for Fall

 One of the many bluebonnets of Texas, this one is the easiest to grow, and is - reportedly - THE Texas Bluebonnet. We lightly scuff the stubbornly tough seed coats so that they germinate quickly. Be certain to plant them in or near their native range at the right time of year (September 1- December 15.) This Bluebonnet reaches 6"-20" and has bold blue spikes tipped in white. It is a hardy annual and loves full sun. It requires well draining soils. In heavy soil, it will germinate, but not establish. Its root systems work in tandem with Rhizobium to fix nitrogen and improve soil fertility. The best time to plant these beauties is Fall. They grow all winter and bloom in the spring.
