These long day onions are elongated in shape ( (like a blimp) and a beautiful shade of red. Their mildly sweet flavor and tenderness, along with their ease of growth, make these rare unique onions yet another winner in the garden. Even though these onions are long day, they seem to do well grown almost anywhere and can be grown in the south. How To Grow Sowing: Since onions take a few months to mature from seed, gardeners with a short growing season should start their onion seed indoors. Plant seeds 1/2 in. deep in small containers, 2-3 months before the last frost date. Keep the soil moist and at room temp.
