How does Step by Step,Level B work? The second in this multi-level series, Step by Step, Level B builds off the foundational vocabulary of Level in a consistent format. There are three readers in each Level B theme, with each reader introducing approximately 12–16 new high frequency vocabulary terms while systematically recycling previously learned vocabulary. The themes are non-sequential—after students have read the 33 stories of Level A, they will have the necessary vocabulary to start any of the Level B themes. This non-linear relationship among themes allows you to design your language curriculum to match the curriculum in other subject areas and to introduce as many or as few themes as suits your program. Themes in Level B are Activities, Community, Family, Hygiene, Math, Nutrition, Plants, Water, Geology, and Ecology. Step by Step's content-based instruction continues to provide a context for learning and reinforces subject matter learned in other disciplines. For rigorous programs, the 10 themes introduce approximately 400 new vocabulary terms.
