It wasn't originally planted in the Wu Yi Mountain area, but was later discovered and migrated to Wu Yi Shan by farmers purposefully. Farmers first took a notice of its bold floral note and started to process it with a yan cha style after moving its cultivation to Wu Yi Shan. Even though Qi Lan doesn't have the same fame as Rou Gui or Shui Xian, a good Qi Lan is still treasured since its production is relatively low.
