Ophiopogon japonicus Mondo Grass, Lilyturf
Ophiopogon japonicus, commonly known as Mondo Grass or sometimes referred to as Lilyturf, is a popular, low-growing, evergreen perennial that’s highly valued for its grass-like appearance and versatility in landscaping. Known for its lush, deep green foliage and ability to thrive in a wide range of conditions, Mondo Grass is often used as ground cover, in borders, or as an edging plant for paths and garden beds. Description Mondo Grass forms dense, clumping tufts of narrow, arching, strap-like leaves that resemble ornamental grass. Its deep green foliage grows to a height of 6 to 10 inches, though dwarf varieties may be shorter. This plant is known for its soft, flowing texture, which adds a refined, tranquil appearance to any landscape. In summer, Ophiopogon japonicus produces small, bell-shaped, pale lilac or white flowers that bloom close to the base of the plant. These are followed by small, round, dark blue or black berries in the fall, which add another layer of subtle beauty. Ho
