Original hand crafted modern expressionist lush landscape oil painting with silver and gold leaf on wood panel with satin wax finish. This painting is part of a series of 12" +12" paintings of the Southern Oaks in Savannah, Georgia. The oak trees surrounding the marshes are quiet giants. At dusk they create a moody atmosphere that is both soothing and peaceful especially those covered in the area's iconic Spanish moss. Following a series of photos I sketch the composition in charcoal on a hardwood panel. Once the composition is complete I spray fix the charcoal drawing and begin to paint using quality oil paints. The fun part is once the paint has dried I cover the painting with a hard wax resin, I melt the wax over the complete image, encaustic painting. Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, is a form of painting that involves a heated wax medium and oil pigments. The melted mix is applied to a hardwood surface.
