BTU Ubiquinone
SUPPLEMENT OVERVIEW: Ubiquinone, or Coenzyme Q10, is an essential cofactor of the electron transport chain as well as a potent free radical scavenger in lipid and mitochondrial membranes. Oral administration of coenzyme Q10 increases both brain and brain mitochondrial concentrations. Studies have provided evidence that ubiquinone can exert neuroprotective effects in animal models of Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and ALS, strengthening the prospect that ubiquinone may be a useful treatment for neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, research supports the idea that ubiquinone may reduce fatigue and depression in multiple sclerosis, while at the same time reducing peripheral oxidative stress, inflammation, and promoting remyelination. Finally, migraine patients who took 100 mg three times a day of ubiquinone had fewer attacks in three months than those who took a placebo. The participants taking ubiquinone also had fewer days with a headache and fewer days with nausea. In a
