Dissolve in liquid. Best taken on an empty stomach Whole Herbs: Using a container made of ceramic, glass, or stainless steel (no aluminum, iron or copper) slow boil SHI GAO (gypsum) in 3-4 quarts of water for about 60 minutes. After 30 minutes add the remaining herbs. Adjust flame so that approximately 2 cups of medicine remain after the boiling. Strain herbs. Drink 1 cup upon arising in the AM, and the second cup after dinner or at bed time. (or as directed by your practitioner). Store evening dose in a covered nonmetallic container and refrigerate but do not freeze.   Dosages of herbal medicines are determined by by the nature of the pathogen, but also of the size and sensitivity of the person. As a general rule, doses of herbal medicines are much larger than pharmaceuticals. Where as, a daily pharmaceutical dose is usually less than 1 gram, herb decoctions usually require well over an ounce (28 gr) of whole dried herbs.
