Terrazza

Terrazza is inspired by the terraces sitting atop Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park. Mammoth is a beautiful geothermal site and has the largest number of hot terraces in the world. The colors and textures captivate me as they cascade together. The hot spring is located near my hometown of West Yellowstone, MT. The angle of this painting also gives the illusion of a terrace balcony over looking the ocean or a beach, as if looking out upon ‘the terrace'.As I was creating this piece, I envisioned the paint becoming a thick, layering process throughout the canvas. However, once I built up the blues and greens, there was something magical about the way the raw canvas texture was showing through the lighter colors.
