Gyosho bako (peddler's box). The peddlers would carry a pair of boxes like this on a pole. Rope went through the rings on the side travel with their goods to sell. This piece is made of kiri and sugi wood, with warabite iron handles. The base wood has been replaced. Kiri - Japanese Paulownia Sugi - Japanese Cedar Iron hardware Meiji Era (1868-1912) 25" x 11.25" x 15.5" (height, width, depth) Conserved by Shibui for the Northern American climate.
