Fuji-fu Wisteria Fiber Noragi | Japanese Antique Kimono

Very rare 藤布野良着 fuji fu Noragi.  Coarsely woven Fuji-fu wisteria fiber body, patched and reinforced. Indigo cotton sleeves and collar.   Fuji fiber was made in 越前 Echizen, 京都 Kyoto, and 丹波 Tamba as the result of an extensive process of pounding, stripping, soaking with ash lye, boiling, cleaning, tying, spinning and weaving.  Many areas used local fibers for clothing before cotton was widely available including: hemp, elm bark, nettle, banana, palm fiber and others.  Fuji-fu - Wisteria fiber Cotton Early 20th Century 40" x 48" (length, width)
