Kuruma Dansu - Large Rolling Merchant Tansu Chest

Large Edo Period nagamochi (lidded chest) kuruma dansu (rolling chest). This type of merchant chest is noted as the first example of Japanese mobile cabinetry. Beautiful patina. Japanese antique furniture. The main tansu chest is made from lightweight Kiri wood, with the base and wheels being made from the more sturdy Sugi wood. Kiri case - Paulownia wood Sugi base and wheels - Japanese cedar wood Hand forged iron hardware  19th Century 48" x 38" x 32.5" (width, height, depth) Conserved by Shibui for the Northern American climate.
