Boro Shima Sheet | Japanese Indigo Woven Stripe

Hand-sewn boro 襤褸 shima piece, possibly a futon cover. Boro is a Japanese form of recycling coming from an economic necessity in which fabric is patched on the reverse side to preserve usability.  The beauty comes from the unintentional artistry created from layers of mending. Shima is a stripped material.  This sheet was created of a pattern of stripes made from various indigo threads and has since been patched in several different areas.
